Where Was ‘The Trials of Jimmy Rose’ Filmed?

ITV’s new three-part drama ‘The Trials of Jimmy Rose’ looks at the challenges faced by a man who has spent over a decade in prison.

Ray Winstone takes the lead as Jimmy, an ex-con forced to face up to the reality that his family have continued living their lives while he was doing his time inside.  Amanda Redman plays Winston’s on-screen wife Jackie who claims to no longer love her long-absent hubby, while his granddaughter India (Daisy Cooper-Kelly) finds herself on a downward spiral. Despite all this turbulence, Jimmy’s determined to stay on the straight and narrow but will he be able to endure without resorting to criminal action?

Where did ‘The Trials of Jimmy Rose’ shoot?

The majority of filming for ‘The Trials of Jimmy Rose’ was done in the North West of England; showcasing regional locations and showing just how film-friendly Cheshire and Greater Manchester can be. Shooting in the regions often provides locations unlike anywhere else in the world and with the help of our Production Liaison Manager Bobby Cochrane, ‘The Trials of Jimmy Rose’ was able to shoot car and traffic scenes safely on public highways as well as filming on location in local businesses, restaurants, car parks and private properties.

Cheshire hosted the production for a number of days throughout filming and various parts of Wilmslow also feature throughout the show’s three episode arc. Locals may recognise retail outlet Xpose and Kings Court which was used by the production during the shoot of a scene where Jimmy attempts to spend time with his family and make amends. Other well-known spots in Wilmslow such as The King & Allen tailors, country house Hawthorne Hall and department store Hoopers were used for additional scenes. ‘The Trails of Jimmy rose’ also shot extensively across Greater Manchester with our Production Services team offering the drama a choice of local filming locations such as Alderley Edge, Trafford and Salford. Each area was ultimately used by the production and can be seen regularly throughout the series. MediaCityUK and New Kings Head Yard Car Park are two Salford locations that visitors of the area may recognise. The house owned by Jimmy Rose is a private residence near Trafford, with his on-screen second home located in Alderley Edge.  Other private homes that feature in the programme include the flat that features in ITV’s teaser trailer:

he apartment featured in the trailer above was filmed at a location in Rochdale. Local restaurants and cafés also appear in the show, including fast food outlet Drumsticks in Northenden and Mario’s Café in Eccles.

While filming across the North West, the drama visited the city of Manchester and used some of its unique buildings as well as our Film Friendly Partners to shoot driving scenes on Mancunian way and restaurant scenes in the city centre. Room restaurant on King Street appears in the series, as well as St George’s Community Centre and the Grey Mare Lane police station. One of the production’s most notable locations is the Manchester Royal Infirmary on Oxford Road, although the hospital is not the only one used by the show, Elmswood House in Wilmslow also appears.
