Precious Plastic Plymouth and Tavistock
We are Kate and Thijs and we run Precious Plastic Plymouth and Tavistock CIC. Our vision is of a world where creative energy drives environmental change. Our mission is to provide a tool for local recycling and creative engagement to empower the community to live sustainably. We take waste plastic, shred it and re-mould it, using a small injection moulder. Currently, we can make soap dishes, earrings, coasters, plant pots, buttons and drawer knobs. It is engaging, and creative, demonstrates how simple recycling plastic can be and opens up conversations around responsible use of plastic. We are ready to look at how we can broaden that conversation and how education and raising awareness of waste have a role in our company’s output. While we do this we hope to create innovative products to find circular solutions for plastics. We are in the process of moving into a bigger workshop on Union Street, Plymouth. We also have invested in new machines to create other products faster and ultimately will be able to recycle more plastics. We have also been very fortunate with the generous help from Nuddge Community Builders who will pay for the installation of 3 phase electrics and ventilation in our new premises. We have established many connections within Plymouth. Through projects with Plymouth University, students have worked together with us on projects Biffa, MVV and Plymouth City Council, We are also part of the Eco Collective, a group of 9 organisations in Plymouth that have similar climate goals and work together for a bigger impact.
