Pipeline plans are in place to establish a vital creative space in Newlyn, acting as a collaborative visual arts destination. This dynamic space will enable the team to expand on their current core equipment hire business, rooted in a location that’s swiftly becoming renowned for its talent base in both screen and image making.

How this year’s shaped up

A time of impetus and action, this past year has seen The Cornish Camera Co. develop and collaborate with partners to help execute their commercial business plans. Company founder and expert DoP Chris Yacoubian has continued to expand his reach, delivering skills workshops and production support, as well as ensuring high-quality kit and high-end film opportunities are available for the wealth of screen talent across the Southwest. The business is proving itself to be a cornerstone of the creative industry’s infrastructure, helping to facilitate an increasing amount of film work and economic growth in the region.

2023 / 2024 Highlights

• Expanding client base across Cornwall and further afield.
• Establishing plans and acquiring the premises for a Creative Hub for West Penwith.

• Supporting young media graduates and creatives as they take their first steps into the industry, introducing them to kit and facilities previously unavailable in Cornwall.
• Partnering with Screen Cornwall for the FylmK commissions.
• Running 2x sold out workshops with Screen Cornwall.

Where they’re setting their 2024/25 sights

Plans are in place for The Cornish Camera Co. to expand its equipment catalogue further, focusing on sustainable solutions, such as, silent eco-power solutions and new LED high-output low-energy lighting fixtures for use on location.

Planting their flag in the sand, the team has identified an opportunity for a Creative Hub in West Penwith, making them the destination for the screen industries in Cornwall. The hub will include a full 360° Infinity Cove — a highly desirable specialist studio space — a number of individual small to medium workspaces, communal space for pop-up events, workshops and screenings, and a café space to serve both the studios and the local community. Simply put, this venue has the potential to become a full modern ecosystem for media creatives in West Cornwall, allowing them to continue their work supporting and upskilling the screen industries.
