Caught between the tensions of a community that is hostile to newcomers, a Girl and her Mother take solace in the isolated world of their relationship, but Girl is changing and longs for the world outside.
A friendship between Girl and a classmate Fiona, shakes the intimate world of Girl and Mother but also the community around them and as the tensions of the outside world come to a boiling point, the boundaries of their tenderness threatens to unravel their isolation, and a kiss between Girl and her mother, becomes the catalyst that allows them both to start really living.
Chika Anadu (Director) – Chika Anadu was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She has a first degree in Law with Criminology, and a Master’s degree in Human and Sustainable Development.
Chika has written and directed four short films – EPILOGUE (2009), AVA (2010), GOING HOME (2011), and THE MARRIAGE FACTOR (2012). THE MARRIAGE FACTOR was made through the Focus Features Africa First program grant in 2010. Chika was selected for the 21st session of the Cinefondation (Cannes Film Festival) Residency (October 2010 – February 2011) in Paris, where she worked on her first feature script B FOR BOY. B FOR BOY had its World Premiere in the First Feature Competition at the BFI London Film Festival (Oct 2013), where it received a Jury commendation. It had its North American Premiere at the AFI Film Festival (Nov 2013), where it won the Audience Award in the Breakthrough section. It also won the Special Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival (2014). B FOR BOY has screened at more than 30 film festivals, including Rotterdam International Film Festival (2014), Goteborg International Film Festival (2014), Glasgow International Film Festival (2014), Durban International Film Festival (2014), Kerala International Film Festival (2014), Off Camera International Film Festival (2015).

Adura Onashile (Writer)
Adura Onashile is a Glasgow based artist, with a background as an actor and dancer. She began creating her own work for theatre in 2013 when she wrote and performed HeLa the true story of Henrietta Lacks. The show’s successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe won the Scottish Arts Club and Edinburgh Guide Best Scottish Contribution to Drama on the Fringe
2013. The show embarked on a British Council world tour to India, Brazil, Trinidad, Jamaica, South Africa, Zimbabwe and New Zealand. Most recently, she wrote and directed EXPENSIVE S**T, which premiered at the Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016. The sold out show won a Fringe First award, the Edinburgh Guide Best Scottish Contribution to Drama 2016, and was highly commended for the Amnesty International Freedom of Speech award. Named in The List magazine HOT100, she was described as “creating politically charged and provocative work, Onashile
is proving that she simply cannot be ignored”. She is developing new work with the Traverse Theatre, the National Theatre of Scotland and her first screenplay GIRL with Glasgow production company barry crerar. GIRL has been seed developed with the support of Scottish Film Talent Network through their Write4Film programme. barry crerar are also working on the short film adaptation of EXPENSIVE S**T. Onashile is also a Channel 4 playwright bursary 2018 winner.
Rosie Crerar and Ciara Barry (Producers)
Glasgow based production company barry crerar was set up in 2016 by producing duo Rosie Crerar and Ciara Barry. With the support of a BFI Vision Award, barry crerar are developing a slate of authored, underseen stories that seek to inspire and provoke. Projects include PETRICHOR wr/dir. Esther May Campbell, selected for Torino ScriptLab 2018, CUCKOO wr/dir. Paul Wright, 15 WOLVES wr/dir. Ruth Paxton and GIRL wr. Adura Onashile. barry crerar is currently in post-production on first feature WE DON’T TALK ABOUT LOVE, with writer/director Scott Graham, in co-production with Margaret Matheson’s bard entertainments funded by BFI, BBC Films and Creative Scotland, to be sold internationally by Film Constellation.
barry crerar is also co-producing feature doc IRENE’S GHOST, dir Iain Cunningham, producer Rebecca Mark Lawson, funded by BFI, Creative England, Creative Scotland & Wellcome Trust; and in pre-production with BBC Films, BFI & Creative Scotland funded SFTN short, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART writer/director Ruth Paxton. Completed productions include two films with artist filmmaker Rachel Maclean, SPITE YOUR FACE, commissioned to represent Scotland at the Venice Biennale 2017, and R U SATISFIED? due for broadcast on Channel 4 in 2018. From 2014 – 2016, Rosie was Development & Production Executive at Creative Scotland, credits include Peter Mackie Burns & The Bureau’s DAPHNE. Prior to this Rosie was Programme Manager at BFI London Film Festival, Festival Manager at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival, Co-Director of Glasgow Short Film Festival. From 2013-2016 Ciara was a commercials producer at Mallinson Television Productions and previously, Development & Production Executive on the UK Film Council funded DigiCult’s shorts programme. They have 20 years combined production experience including producing award-winning short films and high end TV commercials.
