Where Was ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Filmed? Our Production Services Team Supported Marvel’s Latest Epic

Following the global blockbuster franchise of Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers including Thor and Captain America, Marvel now presents its new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure starring Chris Pratt as the brash adventurer Peter Quill who finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Guardians of the Galaxy filming locations

Guardians of the Galaxy filmed at Shepperton Studios and Longcross Studios in the South East and the scene including the flaming wreckage of an aircraft was filmed at Tilsley Farm in Bramley, Surrey.

Whilst filming in England, the production also used Hemel Hemstead hospital in Hertfordshire and spent time in Shoeburyness in Essex.

The production also shot many scenes around London including areas such as Lime Street and Mayfair. Also keep an eye out for some of the iconic locations used including Millennium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Creative England’s Production Services team assisted Guardians of the Galaxy in the early stages of pre-production for locations that could be found in outer galactic planets as well as locations for VFX shots.

Asha Sharma, UK Location Manager on Guardians of the Galaxy said: “Creative England were a fantastic resource, with the search for locations on Guardians of the Galaxy. All the Regional Production Liaison Managers had a wide knowledge of their area of expertise and they were always keen to provide suggestions / ideas / information for the ever changing ideas and briefs. With our filming in Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Hampshire, they were able to steer us in the right direction with the various authorities and local contacts – thank you for all your help!’
