At the Big Culture Northumberland Co-working Day, Creative UK will be launching a £40K challenge fund for cultural freelancers North of the Tyne.
What is it for?
The grant will focus on two areas – Dynamism and Diversifying Income for Growth and finding tangible solutions for both. During The Big Culture Northumberland Co-working Day Creative UK will host a group session to encourage participants to road test their ideas and receive inputs from others.
Who is it for?
A ringfenced pot for cultural and creative freelancers who are based in the North of Tyne (Newcastle, North Tyneside or Northumberland).
The fund is open to freelances working in the Visuals arts, Performing arts, Music, Film, TV, Media, Immersive and Video Games, Advertising & Marketing, Digital & Creative Tech, Creative Software Solutions, Fashion, Architecture, Heritage, Publishing, Museums, Libraries and Galleries.
How much is available?
Grants of £2,000 are available and we are looking to make up to 20 awards.
Eligibility
The grants will be open to people who participate in the challenge activity as part of The Big Culture Northumberland Co-working Day on Wednesday 22 June 2022. The main event is happening in Alnwick Playhouse, but you can also attend virtually via Zoom from home or from a participating venue across the region (Berwick Maltings, Queen’s Hall Hexham, Berwick Museum, Woodhorn Museum, Northumberland Libraries and November Club).
Timeline
Preparation before the event will be key – we’ll expect you to think about the focus areas – Dynamism and Diversifying Income for Growth and how you could use a £2k grant to finding a tangible solution. Any freelancers wishing to work together an apply for a joint pot, eg £4k, £6, 8k will be welcomed – collaboration is encouraged!
Challenge work should be quick. Ideas from the challenge event can be refined over the following week with the deadline for final proposals by Wednesday 6 July 2022
Why can’t I just apply without attending the event?
The challenge approach seeks to harness the power of collaboration. At the event you will have the opportunity to talk directly to the funders and experts to help shape the proposal.
Application process:
Challenge activity should be fun, friendly and fast! There’s no application form*, simply workshop your ideas during the challenge day, refine your proposal over the next two weeks and submit via email by midnight Wednesday 6 July 2022 to northoftyne@wearecreative.uk
*If your proposal is selected for funding, you
will need to submit details of you/your business, your budget and your plans via the Creative UK portal.
The Big Culture Northumberland Co-working Day is supported by Northumberland County Council and delivered in partnership with Creative UK and North East Cultural Freelancers.
