Where Did ‘Phantom Thread’ Film?

Daniel Day Lewis returns to our screens in Phantom Thread, his final performance after retiring from acting. Set in 1950s London, the film explores the intricacies of Day Lewis’ relationship with waitress Vicky Krieps with beautiful English locations as its backdrop.

Creative England’s Production Services team worked with the production’s Location Team to support the production across the location searches and filming across the English regions, as well as support sourcing regional crew for the production.

With its evocative postwar London setting and picturesque escapes to the British countryside, Phantom Thread is steeped in romantic atmosphere. The design team made a choice early on in the production to employ authentic spaces wherever possible rather than re-create them inside a studio or soundstage.

The production made use of the stunning North Yorkshire Coast, including Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and the dramatic coastal views over Ravenscar which all feature in the official trailer.
