New To E!, ‘The Royals’ follows a fictional version of the British royal family as their dedication to duty and extravagant lifestyle is put under the microscope.
Elizabeth Hurley stars as the family’s royal matriarch Queen Helena Henstridge, alongside Vincent Regan as King Simon Henstridge, William Moseley as Prince Liam and Alexandra Park as Princess Eleanor. Together, they must navigate all manner of public and private dramas while their doting public look on with judging eyes.
To find a suitable home for this fictional royal family, the production chose Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. This stately home has a rich history of appearing on screen, having appeared in the likes of ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ in 2007 and Alan Rickman’s ‘A Little Chaos’ in 2014. Creative England’s Production Services Team provided key information to the show’s Locations Team during the shoot at Blenheim, including useful introductions and details of daily rates.
In addition to setting up shop in Oxfordshire, the production also shot on location in Hampshire, Wilshire and Hertfordshire. In terms of local spots featured in the show, viewers should look out for Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Aldbury Village in Hertfordshire, where the production visited for a full day’s worth of shooting.
To facilitate this shoot, our Production Liaison Manager for the East Hayley Armstrong co-ordinated a site visit and connected the production with the Hertfordshire Highways team to discuss traffic management during filming. As a direct result of this connection, the road closure application was granted and the cast and crew of ‘The Royals’ were able to use the village to shoot various scenes. Creative England’s Production Services Team also supported the show by locating a suitable unit base while filmmakers were shooting on location across Hertfordshire and at Hemel Hempstead Hospital.
