Where Was Happy Valley Series 2 Filmed?

The BAFTA-winning police drama ‘Happy Valley’ is back on BBC One.

Written by Sally Wainwright, the BBC One drama follows the investigations of Sergeant Catherine Cawood played by Sarah Lancashire.

With Tommy Lee Royce played by James Norton now in prison, Catherine suspects there may be another serial killer on the loose after making a startling discovery which will have devastating repercussions for her and her family.

The returning members of cast from the original six-part drama will be joined by Julie Hesmondhalgh (‘Coronation Street’, ‘Cucumber’), Shirley Henderson (‘Southcliffe’, ‘Jamaica Inn’), Katherine Kelly (‘Coronation Street’, ‘Mr Selfridge’), Amelia Bullmore (‘Scott & Bailey’, ‘Twenty Twelve’), Kevin Doyle (‘Downton Abbey’, ‘The Crimson Field’), Matthew Lewis (‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Syndicate’) and Con O’Neill (‘Cucumber’).

Writer and Executive Producer Sally Wainwright said:

“I am thrilled to be embarking on a second series. We were delighted and overwhelmed with the viewers’ response to series one and it’s clear that there’s a huge appetite to see more of the characters and drama among the TV viewing public.”

Creative England were on board prior to filming to help Producers source production offices and space for studio sets in Calderdale and also assisted securing a number of key locations for the shoot. Our Production Services team also worked with filming partners Calderdale Council who were on board to enable filming permissions and access to Yorkshire filming locations in ‘Happy Valley’ Series 2.

Katie Kinsella, Principal Officer of Tourism at Calderdale Council said:

“Calderdale has been a part of Creative England’s Film Friendly Partnership for a number of years. The area benefits greatly from a good working relationship with the organisation that works hard to source opportunities for film and TV in the borough.

“Films such as ‘Swallows and Amazons’ and TV series including ‘Last Tango in Halifax’, ‘Happy Valley’ and ‘Jericho’ are all filmed in Calderdale and this not only supports the local economy during filming but raises the profile of the area as a tourist destination.”

Luc Webster, Location Manager for ‘Happy Valley’ said:

“Creative England provided valuable assistance on the production of ‘Happy Valley’ with access to regional contacts and locations.

“It was a pleasure filming in Calderdale, the area is a particularly film friendly district thanks to support from Calderdale council who work with Creative England via their Filming Partnership.”
