Where Was Peaky Blinders Series 4 Filmed?

The Peaky Blinders return to our screens for a fourth series this week, picking up from the previous series’ cliff hanger ending.

Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson and Tom Hardy have all returned, with two prominent new faces joining the set with Academy Award Winner Adrian Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel) joining as a new villain, and Game of Thrones star Aiden Gillen also joining the production.

Where was series 4 of Peaky Blinders filmed?

The production was based in Manchester, and used local locations including Salford Lads Club, the Victoria Baths, and Mangle Street and Back Piccadilly in the famous Northern Quarter for pivotal scenes, which Creative England orchestrated with Salford City Council and Manchester City Council.

The English regions offered a fantastic range of period locations for Peaky Blinders series 4.  We filmed across the North West and in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the West Midlands.  Creative England helped us with access to locations and local councils.  It’s great to have such a film friendly part of the world to work in.  The variety of locations available for period productions is amazing.

The production also travelled across to Yorkshire to film in at a number of key locations in Bradford including City Hall, the Midland Hotel and historic buildings in Little Germany’s business district with support from Bradford Film Office.

Following an introduction from Creative England to location manager Miglet Crighton and Michael Campbell we had a good couple of days looking at a wide range of locations across the Bradford district. City Hall in Bradford is a Grade 1 listed building and has some amazing spaces and equally amazing connecting corridors. It also has the benefit of a beautifully preserved Victorian Court Room which sits above the old Police station complete with old cells. We also took the team to the area of Bradford known as Little Germany which has some dramatic old wool warehouses and cobbled streets and has been used in various filming projects over the years. The team were particularly taken with a disused warehouse which they eagerly transformed into the HQ for the Peaky Blinders and this features quite heavily in series 4.

Creative England were also on hand to source locations and assist with filming permissions in Huddersfield (West Yorkshire) and Edale (Derbyshire) with support from filming partners Kirklees Council, and High Peak Council.

Peaky Blinders also returned to Black Country Living Museum, an open-air museum of rebuilt historic buildings in Dudley which has been used as a location in every series of the show.

Filming of Peaky Blinders series 4 was also facilitated by Liverpool Film Office and Birmingham Film Office.
