Where Was Series 2 of ‘Utopia” Filmed?

Wondering where Utopia Series 2 was filmed? As Channel 4’s conspiracy thriller returns for a second series this week, keep an eye on the locations used – you may recognise more of them than you think.

Utopia series 2 received extensive support from Creative England’s Production Services Team, who worked closely with producers at Kudos Film & TV to secure the shoot in Yorkshire, providing essential regional location and crew support during filming last year.

For all who missed series one, Utopia follows a group who find themselves in possession of a graphic novel manuscript called The Utopian Experiments that supposedly predicts the worst disasters of the last century. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones who know about this all-important item and it’s not long before they’re targeted by a mysterious and deadly organisation calling themselves The Network. Whilst avoiding detection from their pursuers, the group must unlock the manuscript’s secrets before the dangers it predicts become reality.

For Utopia, our Production Services Team facilitated advance familiarisation in Yorkshire, accompanying director Marc Munden to key locations to help provide a flavour of just what the region has to offer. As a result, a range of key Yorkshire locations were featured on the show.

Utopia Series 2 filming locations:

When watching Utopia in the coming weeks, look out for locations such as Temple Works in Leeds, Allerton Castle in Knaresborough, the Chocolate Works in York, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and various spots in Leeds City Centre. In addition, a few sequences were filming in and around the University of Bradford, the River Mersey in Liverpool and Scarborough. Members of Creative England’s Film Friendly Partnership assisted during filming in Yorkshire including Leeds, Barnsley, Scarborough, York, Kirklees, Harrogate, Wakefield and Bradford City of Film. Filming in Liverpool was also supported by the Liverpool Film Office.

Our Production Services Team was also key in securing a base for Utopia‘s production in central Leeds, using their expert knowledge of the region and database of contacts to secure office space. If you’re planning to shoot your feature in Leeds or Yorkshire, Creative England’s Production Services Team can help. From location doubling to sourcing bespoke spots, filming in England has never been in greater demand. Our team handle over 1,000 requests a year and have all the experience and contacts necessary to fast-track your film shoot. The best part? Their service is completely free of charge.
